Roy Nelson Talks Fight With Stefan Struve

Roy Nelson will take on Stefan Struve at UFC Fight Night 21 on Spike TV and the big man who won TUF 10 talks to Fighters Only about the match:

"[Struve] is a great kid with a great record, 22-3 and he is 3-1 in the UFC. But I think our paths may have crossed a little early for him. He is a young kid, 21, I know he has a lot to look forward to ... I think its definitely going to be a ‘different' fight. You've got a 6' 11" guy against a 5' 5" guy, tall and slinky against short in stature. I think I am a little bit better in some aspects. I think my experience... actually I cant even say that, he has more fights than I do, haha! I think it will just come down to who wants it more. He is young hungry kid and I am a hungry old kid. I need to eat. I take every fight seriously, even my fight with Kimbo I took serious. You have to go in there and have a good gameplan and keep your head. One of the things I always do is take everyone serious because [MMA] is like football, any given Sunday any team can win."

With knockout wins over Wanderlei Silva, Liddell and Marvin Eastman and a decision victory over Dan Henderson, the 31-year-old Memphis, Tennessee native has picked up wins against some of the biggest names in mixed martial arts. Most recently earning a unanimous decision win over Keith Jardine at UFC 96, Jackson has won two in a row and now faces Jardine’s friend and training partner.

“I really want to knock this guy out,” Jackson said. “I’ve never, ever wanted to knock someone as cold as I want to knock Rashad Evans out. He’s disrespected me so much, for so long. I am so motivated to train my ass off. I’ve moved my coaches into my house already - Rashad should be prepared to see a brand new Rampage in May. I saw him in Sydney a few weeks back and we picked up right where we left off. I can’t stand him. He’s a disrespectful person and I didn't even want to beat Wanderlei as much as I want to beat this guy.”

A former All-American college wrestler turned successful mixed martial artist, “Suga” Rashad Evans (fighting out of Albuquerque, N.M., 19-1-1) put himself back on the championship track with an impressive decision victory over knockout artist Thiago Silva at UFC 108. With an outstanding 9-1-1 record in the UFC, Evans has fought and beaten the best, including wins over former UFC champions Chuck Liddell and Forrest Griffin. Now the 30-year-old former Michigan State wrestler and Niagara Falls, New York native will get his chance to exchange blows with the man he’s been exchanging words with.

“I don’t like all the pre-fight talking, so I can’t wait until I finally get my chance to shut him up,” said Evans. “There were a lot of times on the show when I wanted to hit him right there. When Keith [Jardine] was training for his fight with Rampage, I had to mimic Rampage’s style. I can probably beat Rampage as Rampage now. Plus, he’s gotten fat. He needs to get in shape just to get in shape. I may come to the Octagon with Mr. T just to get in his head.”

Lyoto Machida Camp Talks Rematch With Shogun At UFC 113

Chinzo Machida, brother and training partner of UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida talks to Tatame.com about his brothers training for his rematch with Shogun at UFC 113 in Montreal in May, as well as his thoughts and the Machida camp thoughts on the last fight:

What do you expect from this rematch?

We can’t predict the fight itself, but Lyoto is more prepared than the other time, more focused on the fight, stronger. We changed the concentration on training, we don’t let a lot of people around him in training anymore, thing that had no reason to happen. We separated his training, making him more focused.

How do you think it’s gonna be this fight?

I believe in a knockout by Lyoto, that’s why we’re looking at.

How is his training?

He’s training well, doing the karate, wrestling, jiu-jitsu, a little bit of everything, besides muay thai, physical preparation… We already started the training in January, his hand is 100% now.

What did you think about the first fight?

I thought Lyoto won it, looked for the fight all the time, besides his characteristic is to counter attack. Shogun didn’t expose himself, he’s kicking Lyoto, but with few moments of definition. This rematch can start the same way, but I’m sure it’ll go a different way. Lyoto wasn’t very satisfied with the critics and Shogun wasn’t happy with the result either. It can put both to define the fight, but we’ll only know it at the fight time. Nobody wants to let it go to decision again.

"At that time I had become an addict and I was hooked on them.

"I needed to get caught," he said. "I needed to get in trouble for it and wake me up and get off of those things."

"I'm trying to get [reach out] to fighters, but it's kind of a taboo thing," said Irvin. "I don't think fighters want to talk about it. Fighters definitely don't want to admit that they have a problem with it when it's obvious they do because more and more fighters are getting caught with the stuff and getting caught with it in them."

Irvin returns to the UFC at UFC on Versus 1 against Alessio Sakara.

"There are a couple of other organizations that are interested in Jose that I'm meeting with next week." said Cesar Gracie.

Maynard Wants Florian-Gomi Winner, Talks Sherk

Top Lightweight Gray Maynard recently spoke about his place in the UFCs 155lb division and called out the winner of Kenny Florian and Takanori Gomi. He also talks about Sean Sherk dodging a fight against him:

"If Florian beats him, [Florian has] a great name," Maynard said. "It's like, 'Florian's unbelievable, he beat the PRIDE champ'. ... It doesn't matter if [Gomi] is still good or not; it's his name (that matters)." "I asked for Sherk two or three times, and he said no," Maynard said. "To me, it isn't that tough of a fight. I think Miller, Diaz, Huerta – that's more of a tough one.

"But [Sherk] has a name because he was a champ. I was trying to (get the fight), but he said no. And I was like, 'Well, I'll keep that quiet, I guess. He's got a job, and he's doing what he has to do, but I would have liked to have that fight.'"

"I think Florian will win," Maynard said. "I don't know if Gomi's really into it anymore. The last two or three (fights), he's looked like he hasn't really trained. It's just like, 'Ah, I'm here for the paycheck.' But obviously he's tough, and he's a good name."

"I think I've earned it, so hopefully it will happen," Maynard said.

Props: MMAJunkie.com

Dan Hardy Ready To Knock Out GSP At Any Time

Dan Hardy was a guest on MMAJunkie Radio this week and talked about his strategy going into his title bout with champion Georges St. Pierre at the end of March:

"It depends how eager he is to get the fight started," Hardy told MMAjunkie.com Radio (audio). "If it starts fast, he'll get knocked out fast. If he takes his time, he might get knocked out in a later round.

"It depends on him, really, and what kind of pace he wants to push."

... "I'm getting messages from all over the world, not just from the U.K. To my surprise, I'm getting a hell of a lot of messages from Canada.

"They usually start with, 'I'm Canadian, but,' and then it goes on to explain that they like Georges St-Pierre, but they're ready for a change, and they want me to win."

Junior Dos Santos Talks Gabe Gonzaga, Previous Fights

Junior Dos Santos talks to UFC.com about his upcoming match with Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC On Versus this month as well as his previous bouts inside the Octagon:

"[Rogerio 'Minotouro'] He's my master and he taught me everything. If I face and beat great athletes nowadays, this is because Rodrigo supported me. ... I'd probably not have become a fighter or my career would be on a different course than it is today if I didn't have Rodrigo and Rogerio helping me."

vs. Fabricio Werdum - When Bruce Buffer said my name and I do my pre-fight ritual of pointing to the ground, Werdum came in my direction, punching his hand, and said, 'You gonna take a beatdown.' Nobody saw it. He did that and I said, 'So come on,' and walked back to my corner furious, but with a smile on my face. And I felt that when the approach is this way I fight better."

vs. Stefan Struve - He extended his hand, I didn't tap it. (laughs) Later we'll chat, now is time to trade punches. He's a nice guy, dangerous on the ground, however I wasn't not going to be his friend inside the Octagon (laughs). Let's fight and become friends only after the fight.

vs. Mirko Cro Cop - Fabio Maldonado told me, 'Cigano, when you look into the eyes of your opponent, he'll not reach you. You're fast, strong, let him know that you're better.' I believed in what he said and I go to knock guys out in all my fights; maybe I can't always do it, but it's my goal."

vs. Gilbert Yvel - "People called me arrogant during that fight because I smiled when he landed that high kick. But that was because we trained to defend exactly that combo, a straight and a high kick. I recorded it and he tried it during the fight, so I smiled because his game was just the way we knew it would be, and I asked for more."

"I think my ground is good if you want to know," said dos Santos. "I train with great guys in the USA too and I'm always learning. This fight is going to be a test for me; I have a chance to surprise people because I believe [Gabriel Gonzaga] Napao will try to take me down. There are positions that I developed in secret and if I've the chance I won't waste them."
